Specialist Programs

Auslan

In 2023 Carisbrook Primary School will embark on a new LOTE subject Auslan. This is Australian sign language and will be taught in every classroom. Not only does learning Auslan make our school more inclusive but it also aides in the increase of memory retention and processing. It stimulates brain development and mental flexibility and increases enjoyment in communicating for both hearing and deaf children.

 

Performing Arts 

Performing Arts is a part of the specialist program scheduled for the Junior Unit in term 1 & 2, then the middle and senior units in term 3 & 4. All classes share a semester of Performing Arts and Visual Arts.

Over a three-year cycle students cover the Performing Arts disciplines of Dance, Drama and Music. Through these disciplines, students will explore and express ideas, practices, present and perform, respond and interpret. 

The curriculum engages students through range of activities exposing them to:

·     Body percussion and percussion instruments to create their own music

·     Beat, rhythm, tempo and pitch

·     Singing, chants, songs and rhymes of different cultures and genres including those of our indigenous culture

·     Role-play in familiar and imaginary settings incorporating use of voice, facial expression, movement and space to create dramatic effects

·     Responding to drama types and thinking about why people use it within their culture and or community

·     Rehearsed sequenced dance movements and preforming in front of an audience

·     Refining fine and gross body movement through impromptu and guided dance 

·     Dances of Australian heritage and other countries

 

 

Visual Arts 

Visual Arts is scheduled for the 3- 6 Units in term 1 & 2, then the junior unit in term 3 & 4. In Visual Arts the students are given the opportunity to experiment with and apply a range of skills/techniques and processes to a range of media, materials and equipment. They will complete drawings, paintings, prints, and collage and construction activities. The students are introduced to famous authors, illustrators and artists paying attention to the different art styles and techniques used.

 

 

Sustainability

In a globalizing world of limited resources, schools play a vital role in preparing students to meet the sustainability challenges of the future. This is a new subject to Carisbrook Primary that will focus on living greener and more leave less of a carbon footprint on our planet.


Physical Education

The Physical Education program at Carisbrook is aimed to develop positive and worthwhile learning experiences that promote a healthy lifestyle develop life-long skills and improve self-efficacy towards an active lifestyle. Students will participate in regular, safe, fun and engaging movements and physical activity through a variety of games/ exercises. In the junior unit students will aim to develop confidence using their bodies to move freely and controlled while executing and improving basic fundamental and gross motor skills. In the middle unit students will focus on developing knowledge around team sports and working with others to execute and improve different skills within games. Students within the senior unit will be aiming to develop their understanding of rules and technical points in performing skills to help perform a sport to a higher standard. They will then have the opportunity to represent Carisbrook PS in district and regional sports competing against other schools. In particular, students will participate in the Lightning Premiership playing either AFL, Soccer, Lawn Bowls, Netball or Tee-ball. The Energy Breakthrough is also a major aspect of Term 4 in which students develop team communication skills to help achieve a common goal.


Library

The library program at Carisbrook Primary School aims to foster a love of reading and literature for all students. Students visit the library weekly to take part in a fun and exciting program whilst being introduced to the latest books and also enjoying the classics. All students are encouraged to borrow from the library weekly and take their borrowed books home to share with their family and friends. 


Home Reading

All students are expected read at home each evening. This will reinforce strategies and skills learnt at school and will develop a sense of confidence when reading.

                 

 

Out of Hours School Care

OHSC will be provided to students from Carisbrook Primary School in conjunction with Maryborough Education Centre and provided by the organization ‘Their Care’. The students will be bussed to and from Maryborough Education Centre to attend the service. Please contact Their Care if you have any questions, click on the logo below to take you to the website.
